Silent and Do Not Disturb

An alarm that rings even when your phone is on silent.

You muted the phone to get some sleep after a late shift. A normal alarm respects that silence and lets you sleep straight through your next start. ShiftFlowr's work alarm does not - it fires at full volume, full screen, at the time your roster says you need to be up.

The failure it prevents

Muted phones are the number one cause of slept-through shifts.

Nobody oversleeps on purpose. The usual story is smaller: the phone was left on silent after a call, or Do Not Disturb was still on from the weekend, and the 06:00 alarm quietly flashed instead of ringing. On Android, ShiftFlowr's wake-up alarm overrides silent and Do Not Disturb, and shows the shift name and start time full-screen - so the mute switch can no longer decide whether you make your shift.

How it works

Full volume, full screen, every shift

Overrides silent mode

Fires at full volume even when the ringer is off or the phone is set to vibrate - the two settings most people forget about.

Breaks through Do Not Disturb

DND is made for sleep. The alarm is allowed through it, so muting everything for a rest day never costs you the next early start.

Full-screen takeover

Not a quiet notification banner. The alarm takes the screen with the shift name, start time and a big dismiss control you cannot sleep-tap past.

Tied to the roster

Because ShiftFlowr also runs your shift schedule, the alarm time follows the pattern - no re-setting alarms when earlies become lates.

Who it is for

Built for people who cannot risk one mistake

A 9-to-5 worker who oversleeps sends an apologetic email. A nurse, carer, security officer or warehouse picker who oversleeps leaves a team short and a manager on the phone. If your job starts while the rest of the street is asleep - an early shift, a night shift, a run of back shifts - the alarm that wakes you has to be stronger than the settings that silenced the phone.

Pair it with the leave-for-work reminder and the two most common ways to be late - oversleeping and leaving late - are both covered from the same roster. More about the whole system on the work alarm app page.

Frequently asked questions

Alarm on silent - questions answered

Can an alarm really ring when my phone is on silent?
Yes, on Android. ShiftFlowr's wake-up alarm fires at full volume even on silent or vibrate, and takes over the screen. Standard alarm behaviour on silent varies by phone maker - which is why leaving it to chance is unreliable.
Does it work in Do Not Disturb mode?
Yes. The alarm overrides Do Not Disturb on Android, so muting everything for sleep never blocks the wake-up your roster expects.
Does this work on iPhone?
Not yet. ShiftFlowr is Android-only during early access and iPhone support is on the waitlist.
What if my phone is off or the battery is dead?
No app can fire on a powered-off phone. What ShiftFlowr protects against is the far more common failure: the phone is on but muted or in Do Not Disturb, and a normal alarm stays quiet.
Is the alarm tied to my work schedule?
Yes. The alarm attaches to your shift pattern and fires before early, late, night or back shifts without re-setting anything when the roster rotates.
Is it free?
Yes - completely free on Android during early access, every feature unlocked.

Stop trusting the mute switch with your job.

ShiftFlowr's alarm fires through silent and Do Not Disturb, timed by your roster, not your memory.
