Where ShiftFlowr differs - and where Spark is ahead

Spark is an established, well-reviewed shift calendar with over 50,000 downloads. This table covers only what Spark's own Play Store listing states - not a claim about what the app might also do that isn't advertised - and includes one row where Spark is currently ahead, not just where ShiftFlowr wins.

How this table was built: every "Not listed" cell means the feature does not appear anywhere in Spark's current Google Play Store description - not that we tested the app and found it missing. The calendar-sync row is the one place Spark's listing describes something ShiftFlowr doesn't fully do yet - included deliberately, not left out. If Spark adds one of the other features after this page was last checked, that's on us to catch and correct.

The alarm difference

An alarm system that plans the shift around your day

Spark's Play Store listing describes instant notifications for upcoming shifts, swaps, and union meetings - useful, but a standard notification, not an alarm. ShiftFlowr's wake-up alarm fires at full volume even if the phone is on silent or Do Not Disturb, with a full-screen alert showing the shift name and start time. It then works out when you need to leave from your commute and arrival buffer, and prompts you to wrap up before the shift ends.

Not just a reminder

Wake-up and leave-home alerts are alarm-grade on Android, not a standard notification that's easy to sleep through.

From wake-up to handover

Wake up, get a prep lead to get ready, leave at the right time from home, then get a handover reminder about one hour before your shift ends.

Commute without sharing your address

Set commute minutes and an early-arrival buffer once. ShiftFlowr calculates leave time without collecting a home or work address.

Terminology and pay

Speaks your region, calculates your real take-home

ShiftFlowr reads your phone's timezone on-device (nothing uploaded) and shows the shift vocabulary your workplace actually uses - Early/Late/Nights in the UK, Swing/Graveyard in the US, Arvo/RDO in Australia, Stat Holiday in Canada. Spark's listing doesn't describe this. On pay, Spark's Overtime & PTO Tracker helps you audit hours against your paycheck - a real, useful feature - but its listing doesn't mention calculating tax. ShiftFlowr's salary calculator estimates take-home pay after UK Income Tax and National Insurance, plus night and weekend uplifts, on top of overtime tracking.

Where Spark is ahead

Calendar sync and family sharing: a genuine current gap

This isn't a point in ShiftFlowr's favour - it's worth saying plainly, the same way this site already does for feature parity elsewhere. Spark's own listing states it connects directly with Google Calendar and Apple Calendar, and lets you share your schedule with family so they know when you're on duty. ShiftFlowr currently syncs your shifts to your phone's built-in device calendar (which most calendar apps, including Google Calendar, can already show), but direct account-level Google Calendar and Outlook sync is still in development. If direct calendar-account sync and family sharing today are what you need most, Spark currently does more here.

Frequently asked questions

Comparison questions answered

Does Spark Shift Work Calendar have a wake-up alarm?
Not according to Spark's own Google Play Store listing - it describes instant notifications for upcoming shifts, swaps, and union meetings, but no alarm that fires through silent or Do Not Disturb. ShiftFlowr's wake-up alarm fires at full volume even on silent or Do Not Disturb, with a full-screen alert.
Does Spark track overtime the same way ShiftFlowr does?
Both track overtime hours - this is parity, not a ShiftFlowr advantage. Spark's listing describes an Overtime & PTO Tracker for auditing paychecks against hours worked. ShiftFlowr also lets you set an overtime rate and, beyond hours tracking, estimates take-home pay after UK Income Tax and National Insurance, which Spark's listing does not mention.
Does Spark adjust shift terminology by region?
Not according to its Play Store listing. ShiftFlowr auto-detects your phone's timezone, on-device and never uploaded, and shows UK, US, Australian, New Zealand, or Canadian shift terminology automatically.
Does Spark sync to Google Calendar or share schedules with family?
Yes - this is a genuine current advantage for Spark. Its listing states it connects with Google Calendar and Apple Calendar and lets you share your schedule with family. ShiftFlowr currently syncs shifts to your phone's built-in device calendar; direct Google Calendar and Outlook account sync is in development.
Is Spark only for firefighters and police?
Its Play Store listing highlights first responders - firefighters, law enforcement, and EMTs - most prominently, but also names healthcare workers and trades/service workers as intended users. ShiftFlowr does not position around a specific profession.
Is ShiftFlowr affiliated with Spark or E.L.K. Equities?
No. ShiftFlowr is an independent app, not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by E.L.K. Equities. Spark is named here only for factual, side-by-side comparison.
